Born in Cochabamba, Bolivia and immigrated to Washington DC in 1984. The first encounter with formal art training happened at the age of 11, when life drawing classes were given at the Chevy Chase community center. Since then, schooling was supplemented with daily lessons from state schooling or extracurricular teaching. He went to the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC where he studied in a fine art environment, but then found more promise in the art community of New York City and finished his training there at the School of Visual Art.
